HONORS PROGRAM
DR. DOUGLAS BOUDREAU, 201A HIRT BUILDING – 824-3310
The Mercyhurst College Honors Program (MCHP) is a sophomore-year through senior-year experience. Academically excellent students may be invited to participate in the Honors Preparation Year (HPY) when they are freshmen or sophomores. During the HPY, students participate in Honors Program courses and activities to prepare themselves for admission to the Honors Program.
The program seeks to enrich the educational experience of such students by offering a curriculum of unusually challenging courses in which discussion is emphasized and in which a deeper understanding of the course material is the requirement. It also encourages service to the community and the pursuit of publication, as well as the presentation of scholarly and artistic works. Students seeking to enter a graduate program are strongly urged to consider the MCHP as part of their undergraduate experiences as one of the goals of the MCHP is to assist students in preparing themselves for graduate work and in gaining the experiences that will make them attractive candidates for graduate programs.
Students in their first year at the College or in the first term of their sophomore year who were not initially invited into the HPY but are interested in joining the Mercyhurst College Honors Program should make an appointment with the Director of the MCHP.
